Lavel Jackson, known to the world as Memphis “Soulman” Jackson, was born in Saginaw, Michigan, with an innate passion for music that would define his illustrious career spanning over 30 years. As a multifaceted artist, Memphis has made a mark as a writer, producer, recording artist, musician engineer, and entertainer, currently gracing the stage as a solo artist under the banner of “Shoals Music Group.” Memphis’s journey into the world of music started at an early age, where his inventive spirit led him to fashion musical instruments out of household items.

This early exploration marked the beginning of Memphis’s lifelong commitment to crafting soulful tunes that resonate across genres such as R&B, Soul, Soul Blues, Southern Soul, and Gospel. Graduating from High School, Memphis embarked on a musical odyssey, lending his extraordinary vocals to various groups and bands. It was with the band B.A.D. that Memphis found his breakthrough, assuming the role of Lead Vocalist.

His seamless vocals not only defined the band’s sound but also earned them the coveted spot as opening acts for major recording artists. Memphis’s songwriting prowess played a pivotal role in B.A.D.’s success, co-authoring the band’s two biggest hits, “Stay Awhile” and “All I Want Is You,” where he also took center stage as the lead singer. The triumph of these records secured B.A.D. a recording contract with Motown in 1991 and a Demo Deal for Al Hyman with Sony Records. While Memphis “Soulman” Jackson may be a recent revelation to some, his roots run deep in the entertainment industry. In addition to his solo career, Memphis “Soulman” Jackson is a key member of the Legendary Group, The Dramatics Featuring LJ Reynolds, and a former member of the acclaimed Legendary Group, The Detroit Emeralds.

His versatility extends even further as he occasionally graces the stage with The Temptations Review Featuring Bernard Gibson. Memphis “Soulman” Jackson powerful and versatile discography has garnered him national recognition, featuring prominently in television shows such as ‘Family Matters’, ‘Sister Sister’, and ‘Dangerous Minds’. He has been the mastermind for numerous nationally released albums on artists such as: ‘The Mighty Clouds of Joy’ (I Want To Thank You), ‘Top Authority (Uncut “The New Yea’) and ‘Mack The Jack’A’ (The True Story).

His artistry has often been compared to the iconic sounds of Ron Isley, Curtis Mayfield and the Reverend Al Green, solidifying Memphis “Soulman” Jackson’s status as a maestro in the realms of Soul and R&B.
