Amanda Sapp Interview with Robert E. Person
we are with an absolutely wonderful musical
sensation; Robert E. Person! This man is a forced
to be reckoned with; and with good reason. Not
only is he a talented singer, but he is being
recognized for his attributes, from nominations
from a 2015 Washington Area Music Awards "Wammie
Award" for Gospel/ Inspirational Vocalist
of the year! PLEASE don't underestimate this
Artist. His jazzy, sultry tone makes you NOT
forget him after only hearing him once. His
music takes you to another level, not only spiritually
but mentally. I recently had a great opportunity
to squeeze an interview in with him amongst
his very hectic schedule promoting his newest
Album "Love Divine" with hit single
"Testify", to be released June 10th.
AS: Why did you feel it was your destiny
"I always sang. Background was my thing.
I would sing back up for many people, but in
some instances where there was a replacement
necessary; I HAD to step up to the plate. The
show had to go on. As far as me knowing it was
my destiny to sing, there were other people
that believed in me so much so to encourage
to keep taking the lead when asked and to perform
at my best when called center stage."
AS: To whom do you believe you owe contribute
"There are three people that I absolutely
must give thanks to and that's Leon Roberts,
Kenneth Harris, and Roderick Bel. These people
believed in me, and felt that in order for me
to be the Artist that they thought I could be,
I needed to harbor lessons and learn the musical
part of music itself. I thank them for their
encouragement and believing in me. They saw
more in me than I actually saw in myself. When
I was afraid or felt that I wasn't good enough
to sing like I thought I should sound, they
pushed me to keep on going!"
AS: Understanding that you didn't set
out to be a soloist, how do you know that you
are being led by the spirit?
"That's a first! My intentions were to
do good music. My intentions were NOT to do
gospel music. I feel like I was put in certain
places for a reason. God truly ordained my steps.
I am a lover of music. There are so many influences.
But, this is His plan. Raised by good parents,
