"KTSU CELEBRATES 45TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY"

On June 23, 1972, the Federal Communications Commission approved an application from Texas Southern University to establish an educational radio station on its campus. Starting with only with 10 watts, KTSU-FM 90.9 became fully operational in January 1973.

The 45th anniversary kick-off celebration will feature the premiere of Gospel songstress Kim Burrell’s highly anticipated debut radio show, Bridging the Gap with Kim Burrell. Bridging the Gap will be broadcast outside live, and fans of Burrell’s can watch the Gospel legend in action, and witness history being made at KTSU Radio.

On June 23, 1972, the Federal Communications Commission approved an application from Texas Southern University to establish an educational radio station on its campus. Starting with only with 10 watts, KTSU-FM 90.9 became fully operational in January 1973.

On Sunday, June 5, KTSU-FM 90.9 will begin a yearlong calendar of events that will culminate in the stations 45th anniversary - June 23, 2017. For the kickoff event, KTSU-FM 90.9 General Manager Ernest Walker and Texas Southern University Vice President of University Advancement Eva Pickens have planned an exciting afternoon of live musical performances, KTSU radio personality head-to-head battles, special live on-air guest appearances, vendors, great food and family fun for the entire community to enjoy. The kick-off celebration will be from 11 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Sterling Student Center Parking Lot S-1 behind Blodgett St. Admission is free.

Performers scheduled to perform include Vanessa Bell Armstrong, V. Michael McKay, Shawn and Rhonda McLemore, The Walls Group, Theresa Grayson, Jordan Donald, Leona Daniels, Gary Mayes, Mark Taylor, Cedric Ballard, Angela Benet, Theresa Grayson, Mary Griffin, Bayou CIty Brass Band and the TSU Allstar Summer Band. Leela James and Yolanda Adams will participate and appear as special live on-air guests. Earnest Pugh, Brian Courtney Wilson and Kathy Taylor are scheduled guests as well. Radio personalities ChattaBox and Chilly Bill will square off in a Battle of the DJs.
